Jesus said, "I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12)

Lambert Road Baptist Church is located in the suburb of Morningside, in Durban, South Africa.  We are a mulit-cultural, multi-generational Christian church that ministers to children, youth, students, young adults, families and seniors.  Our church was planted in Morningside in 1904 by the Durban Central Baptist Church and Glenwood Community Church (then called the Bulwer Road Baptist Church).

Our church is a Gospel-centred, Bible-believing church in Morningside, Durban.  We love "teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ" (Acts 5:42).  As an evangelical Christian church we believe that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9).  At Lambert Road Baptist Church we believe that "all Scripture is breathed out by God" (2 Timothy 3:16), and are committed to expository preaching.

The vision of Lambert Road Baptist Church is captured in our logo:

  • To be a Bible-based evangelical local church in Durban, South Africa
  • To be united under Jesus, who is the head of the church;
  • To be centred on the cross of Christ, which is the hope of glory for his church;
  • To shine for Jesus in Morningside, Durban, being salt and light.

Durban (Zulu: eThekwini) is the second most populous city in South Africa. Durban is a major centre of tourism due to the city's warm subtropical climate and beautiful beaches.  Durban is situated on the east coast of Africa, in the province of KwaZulu Natal (KZN), and has the busiest port in Africa.  Durban was a host city for the successful FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa, and has plans to bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.  According to the 2001 Census, Durban has a population of 3.2 million.  Black Africans account for 68.30% of Durban's population, Indians 19.90%, Whites 8.98% and Coloureds 2.89%.  48.9% of the population in Durban is under the age of 24, while 4.2% are over the age of 65. The median age in Durban is 25 years old. 27.9% of city residents are unemployed.  Our belief is that Jesus has “many in [Durban] who are [His] people” (Acts 18:10).
